Melanotan-1 (Afamelanotide, MT-1, CAS# 75921-69-6) is a synthetic linear 13-amino-acid analogue of native alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), carrying Nle⁴ and D-Phe⁽ substitutions that enhance metabolic stability and MC1R binding potency relative to the native hormone. NexPept supplies it as a lyophilized research reference standard for MC1R receptor binding assays, melanogenesis pathway studies, and in vitro photoprotection mechanism research. Not for use in any living organism.
Every lot is independently tested by a third-party analytical laboratory before it is listed. The Certificate of Analysis reports HPLC purity, mass spectrometry identity confirmation, and net-content verification, and stays published in our COA library after the batch sells out.
For background on the compound itself — what the Nle⁴ and D-Phe⁷ substitutions do, the MC1R selectivity, and the published record — see our Melanotan-1 research overview, or compare the two analogues directly in Melanotan-1 vs Melanotan-2.

Melanotan-1 is used as a peptide tool compound in preclinical in vitro settings. Published work has examined its behaviour in MC1R receptor binding assays, melanogenesis pathway studies, photoprotection and DNA repair-related signalling research, and anti-inflammatory pathway models in macrophage systems.
As a linear 13-amino-acid analogue with Nle⁴ and D-Phe⁽ substitutions that enhance metabolic stability and receptor binding potency relative to native α-MSH, it is used in controlled laboratory environments to study melanocortin receptor pharmacology and downstream signalling mechanisms. Melanotan-1 is catalogued under neuro research. Lot-to-lot consistency matters for this kind of work, which is why every NexPept batch is published with its own purity figure rather than a blanket claim.
This compound has not been authorized by Health Canada for any therapeutic, clinical, or human use.
