Research context
Semax is used as a peptide tool compound in preclinical in vitro settings. Published work has examined its behaviour in melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) pharmacology and GPCR signalling, BDNF and NGF pathway modulation in hippocampal and cortical cell models, and neurite outgrowth studies in primary neuronal culture.
The C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension confers resistance to exopeptidase cleavage, a structural property studied in neuropeptide stability models.
