KPV overview

KPV (α-MSH(11–13), CAS# 67727-97-3) is a synthetic tripeptide corresponding to the C-terminal three residues (positions 11–13) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. NexPept supplies it as a lyophilized research reference standard for MC1R receptor binding assays, cell-signalling studies of melanocortin-derived tripeptides, and peptide stability research. Not for use in any living organism.

Every lot is independently tested by a third-party analytical laboratory before it is listed. The Certificate of Analysis reports HPLC purity, mass spectrometry identity confirmation, and net-content verification, and stays published in our COA library after the batch sells out.

For background on the compound itself — how the tripeptide relates to alpha-MSH, and what the published research record covers — see our KPV research overview.

Research context

KPV is used as a peptide tool compound in preclinical in vitro settings. Published work has examined its behaviour in MC1R receptor pharmacology studies, NF-κB pathway modulation assays, structure–activity relationship work within the α-MSH sequence, and peptide permeability and intracellular delivery research.

As a defined 3-amino-acid C-terminal fragment of α-MSH with consistent structural characteristics between lots, it is used in controlled laboratory environments to study short-sequence peptide-cell interactions independent of the melanotropic activity carried by the full α-MSH sequence. KPV is catalogued under cellular research. Lot-to-lot consistency matters for this kind of work, which is why every NexPept batch is published with its own purity figure rather than a blanket claim.

This compound has not been authorized by Health Canada for any therapeutic, clinical, or human use.

Frequently asked questions

What testing does each batch go through?
Identity and purity are confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry before a lot is listed. The current lot, NP-KPV-001, tested at 99.64% on April 16, 2026. If a lot has not been tested, it does not go on sale.
What class of compound is KPV?
A synthetic tripeptide corresponding to the C-terminal three residues (positions 11-13) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Supplied as a lyophilized powder and handled as a peptide reference standard, not as a formulation.
How does KPV differ from the full α-MSH sequence?
KPV is only the three-residue C-terminal fragment of α-MSH, so it is studied for its own signalling behaviour separate from the melanotropic activity carried by the full peptide. Researchers use it to isolate effects attributable to this short sequence alone. Full-length alpha-MSH analogues are a separate line of work — see Melanotan-2 and PT-141 for compounds that retain melanocortin receptor activity.
What physical form does it arrive in?
A white to off-white lyophilized (freeze-dried) solid, sealed in a single vial. Net quantity is 10mg. No preparation, reconstitution or handling instructions are supplied; those are determined by qualified personnel under your own institutional protocols.
