Glutathione (GSH; L-Glutathione reduced; CAS# 70-18-8) is an endogenous tripeptide composed of γ-glutamate, cysteine, and glycine, characterised by an unusual γ-peptide bond between the glutamate side-chain carboxyl and the cysteine amine. It is the most abundant intracellular low-molecular-weight thiol and functions as the primary endogenous redox buffer in mammalian cells. GSH is studied as a biochemical research tool for investigating oxidative stress models, Nrf2/ARE pathway activation, glutathione peroxidase and reductase enzyme kinetics, and cellular redox homeostasis. Supplied by NexPept as a lyophilized powder for in vitro laboratory research use. This compound has not been authorized by Health Canada for any therapeutic, clinical, or human use.

Glutathione (GSH) is used extensively in in vitro laboratory settings as a biochemical research reagent for investigating cellular redox biology. Research applications include GSH/GSSG ratio determination in oxidative stress models, glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) enzyme activity assays, Nrf2/Keap1/ARE pathway activation studies, protein S-glutathionylation analysis, and antioxidant capacity benchmarking in cell-free systems. As the most abundant endogenous thiol, GSH is also used as a reference standard in redox proteomics workflows and as a positive control reagent in ROS scavenging assays.

Store sealed lyophilized material under controlled laboratory conditions in accordance with validated institutional SOPs and applicable technical documentation. Protect from light, moisture, and oxidising agents. The free thiol group (–SH) on the cysteine residue is the primary redox-active site; handling conditions should be established by qualified research personnel to maintain thiol integrity in accordance with the specific experimental protocol.
